♔ MEMORY 11

Memory Regained: A gift at her door
Date: Day 68
Game won: Dating Sim - Game Freak

Memory:

You start off standing outside a toy store.

This isn't a place you come by often - you'd rather gouge out an eye than have anyone think that you like being around these stores - but it's a special occasion and that's enough for you to step inside and look around. It's embarrassing as fuck, but thankfully, you already know what you want to buy.

You've spent all of last night trying to think of a gift, what she might like, and you've eventually settled on a plush dog. You recall owning a dog when you were younger, and how it hated her, barking and biting whenever she would get near. Despite that, though, she kept attempting to pet it. You don't know if she was just fiercely determined to get it to like her, or if she just liked it that much. Either way, whatever the reason was, you decided to settle on this plushie, based on the reasoning that girls like cute things like these, right?

You're at least hoping so. You never buy things like these, so you're going only with your gut instincts. Like hell you were going to ask anyone for advice; you didn't want anyone to know about this and deal with whatever teasing bullshit that might follow with it. They'll start getting the wrong idea and then you'll have to threaten them to shut up. It's just a gift for someone he knows, nothing more, there's nothing going on. But when you suddenly think of how she might react to the gift (she might open up the gift, see the doll, and maybe even smile), you feel your cheek heat up. You do your best to stop that train of thought, though. You don't want to be seen in this store any longer, much less while holding a little toy, so you stop that train of thought and quickly go to pay for it.

You leave the store just as fast as you've entered, and make your way back to the dorms, trying to ignore the butterflies swelling up in your stomach.

When you reach your room, you place the toy in a gift bag. You don't even bother attempting to wrap it, mainly because you don't know how to wrap for shit. You consider also writing a card, but decide against it. It would only make it more awkward, and she doesn't have to know who it's from. Just from someone who actually remembers her birthday, and wants to thank her for dealing with all the bullshit you put her through. Nothing else. At least, that's what you keep telling yourself.

You wait until night, when the dorms are empty and quiet, to finally leave your room and head off to hers. The last thing you want is someone to start questioning you on why you're holding a birthday bag, or why you're out this late, so you ensure that no one manages to see or hear you as you make through. You know that she's most likely in her room at this time of the night, and seeing the light under her door confirms it.

You place the gift bag in front of her door and ring the doorbell, before scurrying off down the hall and behind a corner. You stay and peek around, to watch a familiar snake open her door and pick up the gift. Your heart races slightly and you hold your breath when she picks up the gift bag and looks inside. You duck back behind the corner when she begins to look around. When you hear her door close, you check again and release a gust of air.

... Maybe next time you can man up and give it to her face-to-face.
